들이나 인가의 빈터, 개울가의 모래땅에 흔히 나는 월년초. 키 40~150cm. 전체에 털이 없고, 줄기에 가지가 많음. 근생엽은 꽃이 필때 어ㅓㅄ어지고, 밀생, 긴 타원형, 길이 9~15cm, 2회 깃 모양으로 갈라짐. 갈래는 긴 타원형, 최종 갈래의 너비는 1.5~2mm, 끝이 뾰족하고, 이 모양의 톱니가 있음. 경생엽은 호생, 길이 6cm 가량, 최종 갈래의 너비는 0.5mm 가량. 두상화는 녹황색, 반구형, 지름 5~6mm 의 두상화서가 줄기나 가지 끝에 한쪽으로 치우쳐 총상으로 달림. 총포편은 3줄로 배열, 긴 타원형, 바깥 조각은 약간 짧으며, 가운데와 안쪽 조각은 길이가 같고, 잔점이 있음. 열매는 수과, 털이 없음.
